“Manhattan is a narrow island off the coast of New Jersey devoted to the pursuit of lunch.” -Raymond Sokololov

This weeks profile of courageous cocktails will be highlighting our delightful Molly’s Manhattan.  Molly’s Manhattan is named for the girlfriend of the bar manager.  You don’t have to date a bartender to get a drink named after you but it definitely helps.

Traditionally, the Manhattan is made with Whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters.  Molly’s Manhattan departs from this program as such:

Shake the liquid ingredients briskly then serve in a chilled martini glass or on the rocks in a high ball.  Garnish with Ole’ Smoky Tennessee Moonshine Cherries.

A Manhattan made with Irish whiskey is often called a Paddy.  Also, when one uses sweet and dry vermouth the Manhattan is said to be perfect.  No matter which way you slice it, Molly’s Manhattan is a classy cocktail named for a classy lady and a classy town.  Stay classy Lafayette. Cheers!

A special thanks to Michael Collins Blended Irish Whiskey and Ole’ Smoky Tennessee Moonshine Cherries for inspiring this beverage.
